Sturdy Upright Bunks
The Bunkster features two fixed uprights arranged in a bunk-style configuration, allowing the bars to align parallel to your kayak's hull. This design accommodates various modern kayak hull shapes. The uprights can be easily repositioned along the axle to ensure compatibility with different kayak widths and hull contours. The axle offers six bunk positions, ranging from 6.25" to 16" wide.
Secure Tie-Downs and Bunk Pads
Securing a kayak to the Bunkster requires flexibility, as each kayak model is unique. Similar to the TowNStow BarCart, the Bunkster incorporates multiple integrated tie-down points. Strap loops located in the wheel hubs work effectively for kayaks wider than the cart's wheelbase, while a centralized tie-down point in the axle center provides stability for narrower watercraft. These tie-down points are designed for 1" flat webbing cam straps (straps not included), but you can also use ropes with a diameter under 5/16". To enhance grip, the Bunkster includes four highly "grippy" rubber bumpers on the underside of your kayak. Unlike ordinary foam, these durable snap-on rubber bumpers offer long-lasting performance.
Convenient Storage and Components
Many anglers prefer to prepare their kayaks in the parking lot before transporting them to the water's edge. However, returning the cart to their vehicle may not always be feasible, leaving the kayak and gear unattended and vulnerable to theft. The Bunkster addresses this concern with its tool-free disassembly feature. The wheels can be effortlessly removed by pressing the button behind the hub on the axle, taking just seconds to complete. Similarly, the fixed uprights can be detached by lifting the orange position detent lever and sliding them off the axle. With the exception of the centralized tie-down point, all components can be disassembled from the aluminum axle, resulting in five parts that easily fit into most hatches for convenient storage.
For optimal loading angles on both sides of the cart, the Bunkster includes two kickstands—one on each side—meticulously positioned to enhance stability and support. When not in use, these robust kickstands securely lock in place, staying out of the way until needed again.
